Is There Really a Culture War?
A culture war does exist in our society, but not to the extreme extent that the media makes it out to
be. A culture war, by its definition, is a struggle between two sets of conflicting cultural values. Thats
it- nothing more, nothing less. Of course there are conflicting cultural values in our country, because
we live in a place where not everybody has the exact same opinion on every issue that is presented. The
majority of Americans unknowingly participate in this so called “culture war” by stating their opinions
that may not be the same as someone else’s. The people who are really controlling this war are the
politicians. They’re the people who make us feel inadequate if we don’t choose one side to be on. They
drive all of us to choose one political party or the other, and there’s really no in between. So, is there a
culture war? By its own definition, yes. This “culture war” is so drawn out by journalists and media
heads today to make it seem like our country is actively participating in this bloody battle. But the truth
of it is, we’re not really all that divided, not more than we have been in the past, and not more than we
will be in the future.
Gonna disagree with you on this one Mo. I don't think the media blows everything out of proportion. Our political system is a "bloody battle" right now. Good try though
